We are pleased to announce that gallery UG Tennoz will hold a solo exhibition of Takayuki NIWA's works entitled "Amanohara(Field of liberty)" from January 20 (Fri.) to February 4 (Sat.).
This is his 12th year as an exclusive member of our gallery, but surprisingly it will be his first solo exhibition in Tennozu. NIWA says, "I have always had a desire to express human karma in a silly way and make people laugh with my works.
He has been using "ordinary people" as models to exaggerate human behavior through extreme facial expressions and movements. The "Clean Man" series, which he has been creating continuously in recent years, symbolizes the moment when a middle-aged man relaxes at home, free from the tension of the eyes of the world.
The word "karma" evokes images of karma, karmic greed, and various other negative Japanese words. However, the expression of anxiety, fear, anger, sorrow, and joy, along with hints of hope, and bold expression and lightness of figures, always sits together and makes us want to shout out in joy, even if we are a bit confused at the moment we see it.
In this exhibition, "a game" is illustrated for the first time, which the theme is "an old man wearing only underpants is running around on a grassy field".
Through this game, the viewer becomes united with the underwear guy atmosphere and experiences funny, yet sublime performances. In that moment, anyone may become a God for a moment. Please come visit the gallery, and enjoy the game.
Finally got off from work, heading home like I'm running away from there.
Pedestrians coming into my sight.
Recalling something that has been burned into my memories, thinking,
"Perhaps, that person was God."
Got home, playing a game like I'm escaping into it.
A game an old guy running on the field wearing nothing but underwear.
"I mean, the world is so hard. So maybe I should run around only with my underwear then."

In moments when I feel like I’m in a place independent of my surroundings,
I sometimes feel like I’m in a different time and space.
The feeling is like clouds or smoke that change shape with no regard for time
that people have to live by, and it also feels like a space of my own.
To turn, various scenes that came up in my imagination from things I encountered.
To express freedom, time and desires that are on the verge of being discarded from memory.
That is what is important, in order for me to be me and for a person to be them self.
He comes from a family of sculptors who have been practicing Buddhism for generations. Her large works are nearly life-size female figures, while her smaller works are pop and comical animal figures. Having been familiar with statues of gods and Buddha from various periods, he has not hesitated to move toward diverse expressions, and continues to move back and forth between the two energetically.
The motifs chosen by Nami OKADA for her artwork are places she has visited personally. Her artwork arouses feelings of déjà vu and of reaching across time in viewers, whose backgrounds all differ.
Each person forms a distinct impression of a given building or piece of scenery due to the differences in their memories and experiences. Such spaces thus possess a multitude of forms.
It is only when there is commonality in the interpretations of multiple viewers that a given piece of scenery takes on certain meaning.
OKADA brings life to One View by exploring the relationship between pieces of scenery that have taken on meaning due to the overlapping of such commonalities and pieces of scenery whose meaning has yet to take shape.
The twilight sky is romantic and makes the fleeting splashes of water more dramatic. Even the skin that has been immersed in the water glows with a lustrous glow, as if it has come back to life. Water is a very familiar substance, but when we discover its mystical beauty and experience its healing and inspiration, we reaffirm our connection with God.
