LIN Chia-hung

Perfect Illusion

gallery UG Tennoz is pleased to announce “Perfect Illusion”, a solo exhibition by Lin Chia Hung, from December 3 till December 23, 2023.

-

''The sunlight streams through the windows, gently rousing me from my slumber. I relish the tranquility of this moment, accompanied by the enticing scent of freshly brewed coffee. As I traverse the familiar streets, I warmly greet my neighbors. Upon returning home after nightfall, I indulge myself in delectable cuisine and cherish the comforting atmosphere.''

Artist Lin Chia Hung, embarks on a contemplative journey, questioning whether the perfect reality exists through examining his seemingly comfortable and conventional existence, while he explores the intricate interplay between the realms of virtuality and reality, as exemplified in renowned cinematic works such as "The Matrix" and "Free Guy". The artworks showcased at 2023 ARTSOLO Taipei deeply delved into the development of virtual reality and artificial intelligence; This solo exhibition in Tokyo, further leads viewers to contemplate the existential value and meaning of life.

Lin Chia Hung specializes in using simple images and calm and collected emotions to convey social issues and to further raise questions and prompt reflections in people. Simultaneously, he demonstrates a keen interest in humanity's endeavor towards scientific and technological advancement, while also contemplating the inherent contradictions and moments of enlightenment experienced by individuals within this pursuit. Drawing upon existentialism, Chia Hung attempts to elucidate how the value of human beings and the meaning of existence is redefined in the process of highly developing civilization.

The focuses of Lin Chia Hung's artworks have undergone notable transformations these years, encompassing diverse aspects of life's stages, as well as his concerns about ecological sustainability, space exploration, AI, and other issues. This solo exhibition can be regarded as a comprehensive compilation of the artist's extensive body of work accumulated over several years, the name "Perfect Illusion" refers to the flawless and idealized condition of existence that is created when the virtual and actual worlds are seamlessly integrated. Within the works, viewers can discern recurring elements pertaining to the concept of system noises and fluidity, which demonstrate Chia Hung's investigation into the genuineness of his own existence and the world we belong to. Meanwhile, he reiterates to the viewers that people are currently experiencing a perfect illusion that is progressively transitioning into a digitalized realm that presents a complex blend of truth and falsehood, prompting individuals to filter and speculate on both objective and subjective realities.

Arts Maebashi 10th Anniversary Exhibition
New Horizon: Vision of the Future

Arts Maebashi in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year after opening in October 2013 as a public art museum in a renovated commercial facility located in downtown Maebashi. Since its opening, the museum has showcased many local art projects as well as exhibitions based on the three concepts of “being creative,” “sharing with others,” and “being interactive.” This exhibition, “New Horizon: Vision of the Future,” commemorates the museum’s 10th anniversary and will further expand the collaboration between citizens and artists based at Arts Maebashi to the urban area. It will display works using artificial intelligence, augmented reality (AR), and other technologies in the arcade area, which is awaiting redevelopment, and in surrounding contemporary buildings developed through urban design in partnership with the public and private sectors. The project will also expand its activities to the city center and will include immersive video installations and works from the residency programs of young artists who will lead the next generation. In anticipation for the “next 10 years” of Arts Maebashi, this exhibition will open up new possibilities for art and museums in an ever-changing city.
