gallery UG Osaka Umeda is pleased to present “Blossoming Lizards,” a solo exhibition by Hitomi OSHIMA from Wednesday 26 June to Tuesday 16 July.

Oshima has been exploring the human psyche through the motif of reptiles, creatures that change their appearance based on external influences. In recent years, she has deepened this theme, adding layers of introspective complexity by merging multiple motifs into single, cohesive pieces.

This marks OSHIMA's first solo exhibition at gallery UG Osaka Umeda. We invite you to take this opportunity to visit and experience her work.

“A lizard blossoms in my mind. When I reach for it, it slips away, only to reappear unexpectedly. The more I try to capture it, the more elusive this flower becomes.
My daily discomforts, like social contradictions and emotional conflicts, transform into a reptile that camouflages among flowers, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. Sometimes it’s white, sometimes it’s vibrant.
What kind of flower will my mind's slight misalignments blossom into next? I don’t know. I face the blank screen again, filled with both anticipation and anxiety.”
