information

gallery UG is pleased to present “Passage of Silence – Where Painting Meets Bronze,” a duo exhibition featuring artists Shigeo IZUMI and Asami KATO, at Bread, Espresso & GINZA LOUNGE from Sunday, October 18 through Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Shigeo IZUMI

Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1965, Shigeo Izumi graduated from Musashino Art University in 1990.

Izumi creates serene paintings inspired by ordinary buildings and still-life objects found in everyday life. In his dimly lit compositions, forms are never sharply defined. Instead, their outlines gradually emerge from layers of oil paint.

The thickness of the paint seems to capture not only the shapes of the subjects but also the passage of time and the subtle sense of presence surrounding them.

Through soft light and overlapping layers of paint, familiar scenes and objects take on an unexpected appearance. Izumi's works reflect a quiet observation of the time and presence hidden within everyday life.

Asami KATO

Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1952, Asami Kato is a sculptor currently based in Italy.

Kato draws inspiration from the cities and landscapes of Italy, including Rome, Venice, Sicily, and the Dolomites, as well as the rich history and architectural remains of ancient Rome.

Living and working in places shaped by centuries of history and culture, Kato explores the passage of time, memories, and traces of human life through a sensitive and distinctive sculptural approach.

After graduating from the Department of Sculpture at Nagoya University of Arts, Kato moved to Italy and studied under Emilio Greco at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, graduating in 1980. From 1997 to 1999, Kato served as a professor at Nagoya University of Arts.

Kato has held solo exhibitions at various galleries and museums, including Kerr Gallery (New York), Seibu Shibuya Craft Gallery (Tokyo), Cité Internationale des Arts Gallery (Paris), Museum Ladin (Italy), and Eno Gallery (Yamagata), among others.

We warmly invite you to visit the exhibition and experience the works in person.
