Biography

YOSHIKAWA created his works on the theme of “gloss” using Kyo Yuzen, a technique of dyeing method established by a famous fan painter named Yuzensai MIYAZAKI in the 17th century.
The delicate lines of the threads unique to Kyo Yuzen, the glamour of gold and silver leaf, and the vivid colors make it a full-fledged dyed artwork.

Hiroya Yoshikawa Exhibition "Glamour, Edge, Banquet" at gallery UG Tennoz (Tokyo, Japan), June 2022

Kyo-Yuzen, is a technique popularized by Miyazaki-Yuzen zai. The theme of this exhibition is its "glamourness", using the same technique that has been used since the Genroku era. By showing Kyo-Yuzen's delicate lines of the threads, the glamor of the gold and silver leaf, and the vivid colors, the very first presentation of 21 pieces of authentic dyed-art was a successful introduction to the world. In addition, three-dimensional works were also exhibited to give the viewer a sense of the depth of the patterns.
