information

gallery UG is pleased to present the “Laissez-Faire Sculpture Exhibition,” to be held from Wednesday, June 4 to Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the 10th-floor Art Gallery 2 of Daimaru Tokyo.

Laissez-faire is a French phrase meaning “let it go” or “let it be.” In economics and politics, it refers to a principle advocating minimal government intervention and respect for individual and market freedom. The concept stems from the ideas of Adam Smith, often referred to as the father of modern economics.
The 18th century, during which Smith lived, was a time of modernization, marked by technological innovation and economic progress. Today, we too find ourselves at a pivotal turning point in history. The title of this exhibition reflects gallery UG’s ongoing theme—the belief that the freedom of expression and the sense of liberation it brings are more essential than ever in these turbulent times.

From June 4 to 14, the exhibition will showcase artists whose primary medium is three-dimensional work. Alongside sculptures made from wood, resin, ceramic, and other materials, the show will also include two-dimensional pieces that incorporate elements of process and production.

Exhibiting artists:
Hideki IINUMA, Takayuki NIWA, Kunihiko NOHARA, Naoki NOMURA, Mitsuaki TACHIBANA

We invite you to experience the vibrant freedom of expression embodied by these contemporary artists living in our shared moment.
