Kunihiko NOHARA – Have a good time!

 

On December 2017, Kunihiko NOHARA’s solo exhibition is going to be held at the main building of the Ueno Royal Museum.

At the Exhibition, more than 200 pieces of collections that are owned and stored in around the world will be presented. There will be space for “view by touch,” a studio reproduction and live performance in the museum.

At the Ueno Royal Museum, from December 24, 2017 (Sun) to January 2, 2018 (Tue) Kunihiko NOHARA “Have a good time!” (sponsored by the Ueno Royal Museum, Kunihiko NOHARA Exhibition Committee, planning by: Laissez-faire Japan Office) will be held.

Kunihiko NOHARA (born in 1982), using woods such as camphor tree and zelkova wood, creates artworks expressing his own casual moment and life time experience. Unrestricted by the conventional sculpture expressions, NOHARA is an inventive artist who expresses the plastic sense and abstract representation using vivid colors on his artworks.

Starting to participate in Art Fair Tokyo, NOHARA attracts attentions from numerous exhibitions and art fairs from in and outside of Japan.

In this exhibition, with his latest works, more than 200 works will be shown in one place with three-dimensional / two-dimensional collections that has been collected in and outside the country. A space named “view by hand” where audiences can touch the artworks will be set up. Although, most of art museums prohibit audiences from touching the work, when you touch it with a hand, you can feel the warmth, smell, sculpture and other details of the wood.

Also, there will be the artist’s studio “Bunk House” where public production of the process of artworks will be shown on the spot. It will be a valuable opportunity to see the process of the work as close as possible. Through this exhibition, NOHARA will introduce the consistent world of his artworks.

Special Features
     1.”view by hand”

In most museums, touching artworks is prohibited for the protection of the works. However, in this exhibition there will be an area where you can view some of the art pieces by touching them. There will be staff attended, so you can touch the work at ease.

 

     2.Reproduction of the studio and Art Production Performance in Public

We will reproduce the artwork production scene of the artist in the venue. Through the exhibition, viewers can see the production process of the work. Also, with the presence of the smell of wood and the sound of chisels, audiences’ five senses will be stimulated in a different way which was hardly felt in the conventional museum exhibitions.
